Enable Class AI study helper
Students ask questions grounded in materials you uploaded — answers include page citations, not generic chatbot replies. You can also ask Class AI about class materials (Lane B) with a separate teacher quota from the student pool.
Prepare
- Upload class materials first (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV, or text) — see Materials & Q&A
- Solo+AI: 800 student asks/mo (resets on the 1st) · ~200 teacher actions/mo (ask, quiz, recap)
- Free/Solo: 5 student asks/mo + 5–10 teacher actions/mo taste · then debits from Wallet credits
Turn on Class AI
- Go to Classes → select the class → Class AI tab
- If off: click Enable Class AI on the card at the top
- Once on, that card hides — you see three sub-tabs below
- Index materials under Materials (per-file index) or check status under Settings
- Wait until status shows Ready (usually a few minutes)
Turn off: Settings tab → Turn off Class AI (students lose Practice on the portal).
Three Class AI tabs (when enabled)

The Q&A tab is optimized for mobile (edge-to-edge layout, large input), similar to the student portal.
Credits — two different flows

Sponsor pool credits do not pay for your own Q&A tab usage.
Fund the class pool (optional)
- Top up Wallet if needed — Wallet in the app menu
- Class AI → Settings → Sponsor class
- Enter credits → Transfer to class pool

How students use it
After enable + index, students open Study → Practice on their student page. They must link their account first.

Quiz & recap tools
- Tools tab → generate a ~5-question quiz from indexed materials (uses teacher actions or wallet credits after the monthly cap).
- Session recap: pick a closed session → draft a summary (Solo+AI / beta). Send/save with the buttons on screen — if notification is deferred, students may not get email immediately.
- Answer compare (Settings): when on, students can compare their answer with your key.
FAQ
"Your current plan does not include Class AI" when asking?
Check workspace plan and that Class AI is enabled for the class. Beta comp (beta_full) includes 200 teacher actions/mo — if it still fails, ask admin to sync plans or restart backend after a catalog update.
File shows "Failed" / index stuck?
- Toggle index off/on on that file
- Wait a few minutes, refresh Settings
- Huge or blurry scanned PDFs / password-protected files — export a clear unprotected PDF
- Index documents only — not board photos (use Quick note separately)
Out of teacher quiz / ask quota mid-month?
Top up Wallet or wait for the 1st reset. Class sponsor only tops up the student pool.
Students don't see Practice?
Class AI on + ≥1 file Ready + student linked account.
Can board photos be indexed?
No — use Quick note (photo) under Materials; Class AI indexes documents only.
